This is the last will and testament of me Robert Raw of Carperby in the parish of Aysgarth in the county of York yeoman made this first day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty four in manner following (that is to say) I give and bequeath unto Ann Webster (the niece of my late wife Isabella Raw deceased) my blue checked bed, bedsead, pillows and bedding, being the bed upon which my said late wife died. And I give and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my household goods furniture plate linen and china and dairy utensils unto and equally between my three nieces Ann the wife of James Pickard, Jane the wife of John Dodsworth and Margaret the wife of Jonathan Plews, Margaret the wife of James Carter Croft (one of the nieces of my said late wife) and the said Ann Webster share and share alike and to be divided between them with all convenient speed after my decease I give and bequeath unto the said Ann Pickard Jane Dodsworth Margaret Plews, Margaret Croft and Ann Webster the legacy or sum of thirty four pounds apiece; I give and bequeath unto Michael Croft and Joseph Croft (the two sons of my late niece Isabella Croft deceased) the legacy or sum of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings apiece with interest on each of the said last mentioned legacies after the rate of four pounds per centum per annum until each of the said last named legatees shall attain the age of twenty one years; And I direct that my executors hereinafter named and appointed shall at their discretion pay and apply each interest for and towards the maintenance and education of the said last named legatees during their respective minorities or for binding them out apprentices to suitable trades; and I also direct that in case either of them the said last named legatees shall die under the age of twenty one years without leaving lawful issue him surviving, then the legacy of the person so dying shall belong to the survivor of them and I further direct that in case both of them the said last named legatees shall die under the age of twenty one years without leaving lawful issue them surviving then the said two last mentioned legacies shall go to my three nephews Robert Raw, Edward Raw and John Raw (the three sons of my brother William Raw) equally and I give and bequeath the same to them accordingly. I give and bequeath unto Thomas Raw Robert Raw, Isabella Frankland, Jane Spence and Ann Raw (the five children of my late brother James Raw deceased) the legacy or sum of thirty eight pounds apiece. I give and bequeath unto the said John Raw (the son of my said brother William Raw) the legacy or sum of thirty eight pounds. I give and bequeath unto John Raw, Robert Raw, Joseph Raw, Bryan Raw, Nathan Raw and Jane Bushby (six of the children of my brother Joseph Raw) the legacy or sum of thirty eight pounds apiece; I give and bequeath unto Nathan Raw (the natural child of my sister Hannah Broadley) and John Broadley, Robert Broadley) the legacy or sum of thirty eight punds apiece; I give and bequeath unto Robert Hunter, Edward Hunter and John Hunter (three of the children of my sister Jane Hunter) the legacy or sum of thirty eight pounds apiece. I give and bequeath unto Jane and Elizabeth (the two other children of my said sister Jane Hunter who are married and whose surnames I have forgotten) the legacy or sum of thirty eight pounds apiece; I give and bequeath unto Francis Raw, Robert Raw and William Raw (the three sons of my brother John Raw) the legacy or sum of thirty eight pounds apiece) I give and bequeath unto Jane and Ann (the two other children of my said brother John Raw who are married and whose surnames I have forgotten) the legacy or sum of thirty eight pounds apiece; I give and bequeath unto Mary Morland (the haf sister of my said late wife) the legacy or sum of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings; I give and bequeath unto Jane Dixon, Isabella Hunt, William Rider, Ralph Rider, Robert Rider and James Rider (six of the children of Elizabeth Whitfield the sister of my said late wife) the legacy or sum of thirty eight pounds apiece. I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth (the other child of the said Elizabeth Whitfield who is married and whose surname I have forgotten) the legacy or sum of thirty eight pounds; And I give and bequeath unto John Lambert, William Lambert, Robert Lambert, Joseph Lambert, Elizabeth Wilkinson, Isabella Brown and Margaret Lambert (the seven children of Nancy Lambert the sister of my late wife) the legacy or sum the legacy or sum of thirty eight pounds apiece and I direct that all the said annual pecuniary legacies or sums of money hereinbefore by me given and bequeathed (except the said two several legacies of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings each so as aforesaid by me given and bequeathed to the said Michael Croft and Joseph Croft) shall be paid to the several legatees hereinbefore respectively named at the expiration of twelve calendar months next after my decease. I give devise and bequeath unto the said Robert Raw and Edward Raw (the two sons of my said brother William Raw) their heirs executors administrators and assigns all and singular my messuages lands tenements and hereditaments situate in the parishes of Aysgarth and Coverham in the said county of York or elsewhere and also all my personal estate (not hereinbefore disposed of) to hold the same unto and to the use and benefit of the said Robert Raw and Edward Raw (the said two sons of my said brother William Raw) their heirs executors administrators and assigns for ever to take and hold as tenants in common and not as joint tenants but subject to and charged and chargeable with the payment of all my debts funeral and testamentary charges and expenses and the costs of proving this my will and of the carrying the same into execution and also charged and chargeable with the payment of the several pecuniary legacies or sums of money hereinbefore by me given and bequeathed to the several legatees hereinbefore named. I nominate and appoint the said Robert Raw and Edward Raw joint executors of this my will and revoking all former wills by me made I publish and declare this instrument in writing to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I the said Robert Raw the testator have to this my last will and testament contained in this and the two preceeding sheets of paper set my name (to wit) my hand to and at the bottom of each of the said two sheets and my hand to this last sheet the day and year first above written.
