This is the last will and testament of me James Arundale of Healaugh in the Parish of Grinton in Swaledale in the County of York yeoman made this twentieth day of May one thousand seven hundred and eighty five in manner following that is to say I give and devise all my freehold messuages lands tenements and hereditaments with their appurtenances situate lying and being at Healaugh aforesaid or elsewhere in the said County of York to my daugher Ann Arundale her heirs and assigns for ever she and they paying thereout the several sums of money hereinafter expressed to the several persons hereinafter mentioned that is to say, the sum of twenty pounds to my son William Arundale of London house carpenter his executors administrators and assigns, the sum o fifteen pounds to my daughter Catherine Foy wif of Laurence Foy of London aforesaid baker her executors admininstrators and assigns the sum of fifteen pounds to my daughter Alice Clarkson wife of James Clarkson of Crackpott in Swaledale aforesaid yeoman her executors administrators and assigns which said several legacies or sums of money I do hereby order and direct my said daughter Ann Arundale her heirs and assigns to pay the same by and out of the said premises within twelve months from the death of my wife and whereas I have surrendered two copyhold or customary closes known by the name of east closes situate at Healaugh aforesaid into the hands of the Lord of the Manor of Healaugh aforesaid to the life of my son John Arundale his heirs assigns now I do hereby declare that the intention of the said surrender so given by me to my said son John Arundale is and are upon such trusts as I shed by my last will and testament in [ ] direct concerning the same And I do by virtue of every power enabling me in that behalf direct and appoint that my said son John Arundale his heirs and assigns shall stand seized of the said closes upon the trusts following that is to say, upon trust that he the said John Arundale his heirs and assigns shall and do by and out of the annual rents and profits of the said closes pay to my dear wife Alice Arundale and her assigns the annual or clear yearly sum of forty shillings free and clear of and from all taxes and outpayments whatsoever for and during the term of her natural life by two half yearly payments the first payment therof to commence and become payable at the end of six months after my decease and from and after her decease the said copyhold or customary premises shall be in trust for the said John Arundale his heirs and assigns for ever I give and bequeath to my said dear wife her executors administrators and assigns my milk cow, I also give and bequeath to my said daughter Ann Arundale her executors administrators and assigns all my silver plate household goods and furniture, wearing apparel debts and personal estate of what kind or nature soever (upon full trust and confidence that she will provide and maintain my said dear wife during the term of her natural life with sufficient of meat drink washing lodging and wearing apparel and other necessarys in life) subject to the payment of my debts and funeral expences, I appoint my said daughter Ann Arundale sole executrix of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made In witness whereof I have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seal the day and year first within written
